公文裕巳 学長 Hiromi KUMON,
                                         President of Niimi University

The founding spirits of Niimi University are
“Sincerity”, “Dream”, and “Love for humanity”

Niimi University (NiU) is located in the northwestern part of Okayama Prefecture, and surrounded by Chugoku Mountains. Niimi City takes 11.2% area of Okayama Prefecture. Eighty six point five percent of the city is forest, and its population is about 30,000. Thus we are in peaceful mountainous area with abundant natural environment.
NiU was originally established in 1980 as Niimi Women’s College, a public junior college. Since then, we have provided a high quality of education by taking advantage of the relatively small size of the university, while making constant efforts to further improve our educational systems. We put emphasis on enhancement of human resourcefulness as well as professional knowledge and practical skills. Now, we have about 5,400 graduates, and they are working
as experts in the fields of nursing, childcare and welfare.
In 2010, the faculty of nursing has been shifted to take a four-year program. From this April 2019, the remaining two faculties are also adopting four-year programs. Finally, the Faculty of Human Health Sciences of NiU consists of three departments: the Department of Community Welfare, the Department of Early Childhood Care and Education and the Department of Nursing. We will enhance researches and education in human health science fields and search an effective way for multidisciplinary cooperation to realize a sustainable local community.
Currently, rural areas in Japan are facing many serious problems related to a falling birthrate, aging society and shrinking population. NiU is located at the center of these problems. By using this locational privilege, we are determined to tackle these problems, and to contribute to realization of a cohesive and inclusive local society through the cooperation and collaboration of three departments.
Our goal is to establish a sustainable community realizing “healthy development of children, improvement of richness in mind, and extension of healthy life expectancy”. Based on the department’s aims, “the welfare that builds the essential foundation of a cohesive regional community”, “the child care that builds a locally-based, mutually supportive child-rearing” and “the nursing that helps to maintain physical and mental health of all generation”, we are trying to find an effective way to collaborate among three departments.
Dear All Students and International Researchers. Let’s learn together to aim at becoming a leader in each expertise field supporting basic human life, in an ideal study environment with enthusiastic faculty members. We are sure that you will soon find something that makes your dreams come true.
