Educational Philosophy and Mission of Niimi University
 
< Educational Philosophy>

 The founding spirits of Niimi University (NiU) are “Sincerity”, “Dream”, and “Love for humanity”. NiU, deeply rooted in the local community with strong human network, aims at nurturing splendid personnel who pioneer in activating the community, and giving education and research results back to society at large from international point of views.
 

 NiU, as the university which nurtures human resources as well as community, conducts education and research in the fields of nursing, early childhood care, and welfare, and trains professionals with high-level knowledge and skills, well-rounded education and humanity, and strong morality.
 
 NiU also aims at contributing to the realization of a cohesive and inclusive local society through cooperation and collaboration of three departments, and deepening the disciplines of human health sciences through the problem-solving process, from a global viewpoint.
 
Policies of the Department of Human Health Sciences

 Diploma Policy: the policy regarding graduation certification 
   Students who fulfilled the requirement of time enrolled as a student and that of units obtained during the enrollment, are to be awarded bachelor’s degree if they are judged to have gotten the competencies such as: high morality and extensive knowledge, techniques and communication skills as professionals, competences to work with community and other professionals to solve problems, capacities to keep studying to develop his/her career.
 
 Curriculum Policy: the policy regarding curriculum and syllabus
   NiU provides common subjects in all the departments, namely liberal art subjects to widen and deepen the students’ general education and humanity, and basic subjects of human health sciences to learn scientific ways of thinking. We also provide subjects, in which students can learn an active cooperation with other professionals based on an understanding of characteristics of the community, subjects supporting career development, and the graduation thesis to nurture skills to search for further perspectives.
 
Admission Policy: the policy regarding admission and enrollment
  NiU awaits students who have basic academic skills to study at the university, ability to analyze and judge things logically, willingness to work for people and community, competences to build friendly relationship with other people through understanding various ideas and standpoints, and attitude to learn actively and passionately.

Department of Community Welfare
・Department of Community Welfare tries to nurture welfare professionals to work actively in welfare facilities, local governments, and medical facilities to support a cohesive and inclusive local society.
・We seek for students who have academic interests in and curiosity about social welfare field, and willingness to learn about community, welfare, elderly care, related laws, policy, and so on to support people and contribute to society.
 
Department of Early Childhood Care and Education
・Department of Early Childhood Care and Education tries to nurture child-care professionals working in nursery schools, kindergartens, certified children’s gardens, and welfare facilities for children, in order to observe healthy growth and development of children.
・We seek for students who have academic interests in and curiosity about local challenges about children’s care in the society with falling birthrates and aging, and willingness to contribute to the community about support for child-rearing by encouraging inter-generational communication and exchanges.
 
Department of Nursing
・Department of Nursing tries to nurture nurses, public health nurses, school nurses who work in hospitals, clinics, local governments, schools and so on.
・We seek for students who have academic interests in and curiosity about human health and nursing area based upon respect for life and human dignity, and willingness to support physical and mental health of all generations, and to contribute to people and the community.

Department of Community Welfare, Faculty of Human Health Sciences  (quota: 50)
 
Human Resource Development
We will nurture “Multi-talented Community Welfare Personnel for the 21st Century” who will realize a cohesive and inclusive local society in mountainous rural area.
Characteristics of the Department
① To nurture talented welfare experts who have strong points of certified social worker and elderly care workers
② To encourage students to study laws and political sciences, and to obtain certifications of disaster prevention officer, administrative scrivener, and social insurance labor consultant
③ To establish sub-major system so that students can be welfare assets to realize a cohesive and inclusive local society with much broader expertise

We will nurture nursery school/kindergarten teachers who can support physical and mental development of children with extensive expertise.
 
Characteristics of the Department
① To establish Niimi University Education Support Center to work with all the childcare facilities in Niimi City
② To provide education and training in the environment, where students can always interact with children with the use of “Child-rearing College” on campus

primary licenses of kindergarten teacher, certifications for nursery school teacher, primary teacher’s licenses for school for children with special needs
qualifications for social welfare officer, qualifications for child welfare officer*, qualifications for child instruction officer, qualifications for family counselor, eligibility to take exam for disaster prevention officer
(*If you are to be employed as a child welfare officer, you need a minimum of one-year experience in the related field as well as units/credits you received in the designated educational institute.)

“Nursing to support physical and mental health”

We will nurture nurses who support people’s health in the community with humanity and nursing expertise.
 
Characteristics of the Department
① To provide basic seminar and graduation research which allow students to learn actively in a home-like atmosphere
② To provide opportunities to tackle with the health-related challenges in the community using the local community resources in subjects such as “Life Support Nursing Practice”

eligibility to take state exam for nurse, eligibility to take state exam for public health nurse, eligibility to take state exams for midwife (after finishing the midwifery course), primary license of school nurse, certificates of completion of visiting and community nursing course* (certificate NiU provides)
